Calves (Birth to 6 Months)

  • Birth to Weaning (0-8 weeks):

    • Colostrum: Essential for the first 24 hours.

    • Milk: Provide cow milk or a high-quality milk replacer (10% of body weight daily).

    • Start introducing calf starter feed by 2 weeks (0.5-1 lbs daily).

    • Access to clean, fresh water at all times.

  • Post-Weaning (8 weeks - 6 months):

    • Gradually transition to high-quality starter feed (1-2 lbs daily).

    • Hay: Introduce high-quality hay, such as coastal bermuda or alfalfa (free-choice or 3-5 lbs daily).

    • Provide loose minerals.

Growing Cattle (6 Months to 1 Year)

  • Feed a growth-specific ration (2-4 lbs daily).

  • Hay: Free-choice access or 5-7 lbs daily.

  • Access to fresh water and loose minerals.

  • Introduce pasture grazing if available.

Breeding Cows and Bulls (1 Year and Older)

  • Breeding Season:

    • Provide a high-energy feed (3-5 lbs daily).

    • Hay and pasture grazing (free-choice or 10-15 lbs daily).

    • Access to breeding-specific mineral supplements.

  • Gestation (Cows):

    • Increase feed during the last trimester (5-7 lbs daily).

    • Ensure access to high-quality hay (15-20 lbs daily).

    • Clean, fresh water at all times.

  • Lactation (Cows):

    • High-protein feed to support milk production (5-10 lbs daily).

    • Free-choice hay and access to water.

Mature Cattle (Non-Breeding)

  • Maintenance diet with a balanced feed (2-3 lbs daily).

  • Free-choice hay or pasture grazing (10-15 lbs daily).

  • Fresh water and mineral supplements.

Special Notes

  • Avoid feeding moldy or spoiled feed.

  • Introduce feed changes gradually to avoid digestive issues.

  • Monitor body condition and adjust feed quantities as necessary.

  • Rotate pastures to promote healthy grazing and reduce parasites.
